Kathryn Yates
- Position :Attorney
Kathryn’s passion for family law stems from her desire to help individuals and families on a personal level. Her natural ability to build strong relationships with clients, attorneys, and other professionals enables her to find solutions and effectively reduce conflict.
Kathryn’s primary focus is on collaboratively addressing divorce-related issues amicably and efficiently. She believes that approaching conflicts with integrity and respect often leads to more satisfying outcomes than relying solely on a judge’s decision. However, when litigation becomes necessary, she leverages her experience in high-conflict divorce cases involving complex financial matters and contested custody disputes to achieve the best possible results for her clients.
Before joining Easterling Law, Kathryn practiced family law in Massachusetts for nearly seven years. Her other legal experience includes internships at the Children’s Law Center of Connecticut and Massachusetts, where she specialized in Child Welfare and Special Education matters. She also participated in the Asylum and Human Rights clinic in law school, successfully gaining asylum for a persecuted Pakistani woman.
Kathryn earned her B.A. in Modern Languages and Literature from the College of the Holy Cross and her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law. She is licensed in New York, Massachusetts, and North Carolina, and is a Certified Mediator, Conciliator, and Guardian ad Litem.
As the former Co-Chair of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association Dispute Resolution Committee and a BNI member with a yearly Leadership Team role, Kathryn actively engages in professional development. Her expertise has been recognized as a “Rising Star” for Super Lawyers 2016-2018 and 2020-2024.
Committed to giving back, Kathryn volunteers as a pro bono attorney for 4All Lawyers On Call and the North Carolina Bar Association Program, supporting low-income domestic violence survivors. She also participates in the Safe Alliance ‘Walk a Mile’ event annually, raising awareness and funds for domestic violence survivors.
